This was a very difficult decision, but circumstances have forced us to leave our Jamaica Plain facility, without a definite plan to relocate anywhere at present. We are sorry for the short notice, but the information below should help clarify and offer avenues for our customers.
- We are extremely proud to have served and worked with you all for 50 years. Thank you!
- Our decision had nothing to do with the devastation being wrought by the current US political administration. We are as aggrieved as anyone by this unfolding chaos, corruption, and inhumanity. But as far as we know, our business and our personnel are not under threat from federal agencies. The factors leading to our decision developed well before last November. Though we are suspending business operations, the people of Red Sun will keep working for justice, peace, and a sustainable world in the local and global communities.
- For you, our customers who have relied on us for services, we have some very good options and suggestions. Our partner in progressive printing, Collective Copies, is available to handle almost everything you have done through Red Sun. Collective Copies is a union-represented, worker-owned cooperative in Northampton, MA. They are on call and ready to print, ship, and deliver your print and mailing projects in professional and cooperative fashion. Local pickups and in-person visits from Boston customers, of course, may not really be viable. Reach Collective Copies at (413) 586-5829, or florence@collectivecopies.com
- Red Sun is ready to provide Collective Copies with your current contact info in order to make communication easier and more clear. If you do NOT want Collective Copies to have your contact info, please fill the OPT OUT form here. If you have any problem accessing or completing the form, please email me with your preference. Our relationship with Collective Copies also means that with your permission we can share files of your previously-printed materials, such as stationary, brochures, books, booklets, cards, posters, etc. This option may not be available for work with other print providers.
- For other kinds of work that Collective Copies is not currently equipped for, we have some more alternatives we can suggest. Connolly Printing (781-932-8885), a union shop in Woburn is expert at lawn signs and large-format printing. They can print on coroplast as well as more environmentally sustainable materials. For banners as well as signs, Century Type in Waltham is available (617-734-1100). While not cooperatively-organized or currently unionized, Century is very reliable and can print your banners of any size on woven fibers like canvas and polyester, or on vinyl. There are other union printers in the region. Although we have not worked with them, this includes Boyd’s Direct in Woburn (781-438-4003).
- Red Sun Press will have a new mailing address after May 15:
PO Box 300008
Jamaica Plain, MA 02130
For administrative or finance issues, you will still be able to reach Red Sun through our regular emails until further notice. - Red Sun Press, Inc. is not formally dissolving at this time. There will be consideration given to alternative approaches to fulfilling our mission of progressive print and publishing in the future. If/when there is more to report on this, we will be in touch.
- CoEverything, a Boston-based worker cooperative focused on architecture and community development, is in the process of purchasing the building at 94 Green Street. While the future use of the space is still being determined, they are committed to ensuring it continues to benefit the local community.
